Is Crown Zenith worth opening? ETB vs tins, Galarian Gallery odds

Verdict

Closer to yes than most sealed product on our board, and still a loss on average. As of mid-September 2026 every Crown Zenith pack holds about $10 of expected raw card value, but packs cost about $23.50 each in the set of five mini tins and about $25 loose, so the better products return about 40 cents per dollar. The Crown Zenith Elite Trainer Box does worse: about $315 for 10 packs, an EV ratio of about 0.32. Roughly $8 of each pack's $10 comes from the Galarian Gallery, the 70-card subset that holds the gold VSTAR cards, and the most valuable of those, Giratina VSTAR GG69, is about $312 as a single, about what one Elite Trainer Box costs. Open packs for the gallery pulls, and buy the gold cards as singles.

What Crown Zenith is

Crown Zenith (set code CRZ) is a Sword & Shield series set that went on sale on January 20, 2023. Its checklist is printed as 159 cards, and the main set runs to 160 because the secret Pikachu #160 sits one number past that total.

The Galarian Gallery is a 70-card companion subset, numbered with a GG prefix, whose cards come out of the same packs. On Pullnomics it is listed as its own set page, but the sealed EV of Crown Zenith counts its cards.

Crown Zenith is a special set, so there is no booster box. Pullnomics tracks the Elite Trainer Box (10 packs, one more than the usual nine), a six-pack booster bundle, five-pack tins, two-pack mini tins, loose packs and a range of collections. The set is out of print, so every sealed price includes a premium for the product being sealed.

The numbers

The live statistics below cover the 160 main-set cards on the Crown Zenith set page; the Galarian Gallery has its own page and is not in them.

The main set's median card is about 39 cents. Seven cards clear $10, none clears $50, and one copy of all 160 costs about $285. The most valuable, the secret Pikachu #160, is about $49.

The subset's 12 most valuable cards add up to about $1,520, more than five times the entire main set, and each of the 12 is worth more than that Pikachu.

Sealed EV by product

Expected value is what the cards in a product would fetch on average at current TCGplayer market prices; the formula is on the methodology page. A Crown Zenith pack is worth about $10.00 on that basis, and the table already counts the Galarian Gallery in every figure.

Worked back from the rates and rarity averages, the main set's hit tiers add about $1.19 per pack, the gold VSTAR tier about $1.31, the two more frequent gallery tiers about $6.70 and the baseline for the bulk slots about 80 cents. The main set's 13 Rare Ultra cards have no published rate, so they add nothing and the figure is slightly conservative.

With one EV for every pack, ranking products is a matter of price per pack. The Elite Trainer Box comes to about $31.50 per pack and a ratio of about 0.32. Its net EV, after a 15 percent marketplace fee and $1 shipping for every card of $1 or more, is about $76. A typical Elite Trainer Box on the sealed EV board returns roughly 15 to 20 cents per dollar, so this one is well above its peers. There are cheaper ways in:

• The set of five mini tins (10 packs, about $235): about $23.50 per pack, a ratio of about 0.43.
• A loose booster pack: about $25.42, about 0.39.
• Five-pack tins (about $138 to $157): about $27.50 to $31 per pack, 0.32 to 0.36.
• The six-pack booster bundle (about $219): about $36.50 per pack, about 0.27, close to a typical bundle.

The International Version tins, about $106 to $119 each, are not in the table: that release was sold with fewer packs than the US tin, so the site lists them with a market price only and computes no EV. Go by the count printed on the tin. Premium collections, from about $141 to about $388 each, are not in the table, and part of their price pays for promo cards, figures, pins or a playmat that EV does not count: read the pack count on the box and multiply by about $10.

Chase share is about 20 percent, so most of the hit value sits in tiers you hit often.

Chase cards

The block below ranks cards across the main set and the Galarian Gallery together. All eight come from the subset.

From the Galarian Gallery list: Giratina VSTAR GG69 is about $312, Mewtwo VSTAR GG44 about $260, Arceus VSTAR GG70 about $210, Origin Forme Dialga VSTAR GG68 about $127, Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR GG67 about $114, Darkrai VSTAR GG50 about $95, Leafeon VSTAR GG35 about $90 and Mew GG10 about $69.

The four gold cards, GG67 to GG70, cost about $763 together, a mean of about $191. Mewtwo VSTAR is a Rare Holo VSTAR, not a gold card.

From the main set's list, after the $49 Pikachu come Elesa's Sparkle #147 at about $16, Rayquaza VMAX #102 at about $15 and Snorlax #109, listed as a Rare, at about $13.

Pull rates

Crown Zenith has its own published rates, not an era average: midpoints of pack-opening counts from TCGplayer and community trackers, collected in September 2026 and credited in the methodology. Main-set rates come first, then the three gallery tiers; the last row is the main set's combined VMAX and VSTAR rate.

Summed, the three gallery tiers (1 in 4.5, 1 in 9 and 1 in 146) put a gallery card in about one pack in three. The best main-set odds are 1 in 8 for a Rare Holo V, and the secret Pikachu is 1 in 100.

A 10-pack Elite Trainer Box averages about two gallery holos and one card from the V, VSTAR and Trainer tier, and about 7 percent of them hold a gold VSTAR. By the site's hit measure, about 38 percent of packs hold something better than a regular Pokémon V.

As in every Sword & Shield era set, published rates are counted per printed rarity or tier, never per card, and alternate-art style cards have no rate of their own. The EV assumes each card in a tier is as likely as the next, so any one named card is far harder to pull than its tier's headline rate suggests. With four gold cards at 1 in 146, Giratina VSTAR is about 1 in 584 packs on that even split: about 58 Elite Trainer Boxes, roughly $18,400, for a $312 card. Mewtwo VSTAR shares its 1 in 9 tier with many other cards, so its odds are far longer too. If the priciest cards are short-printed within their tiers, the $10 pack EV is too generous.

Who should open it and who should buy singles

Anyone after Giratina VSTAR, or another gold card, is better off with the single. Giratina costs about what one Elite Trainer Box does, and only about 7 percent of those boxes hold any gold card.

Set builders are in the same spot: all 160 main-set cards cost about $285 as singles, less than one Elite Trainer Box. Players can skip packs too: main-set Rare Holo V cards average about $2.25.

For fun, the gallery delivers a card about every third pack. Buy the cheapest packs, which among the US products today means the mini tin set or loose packs, and expect about $10 of cards per pack before selling costs and about $7.65 after them.

A sealed Elite Trainer Box already on your shelf is worth about $315 closed and, on average, about $100 once opened.

How to buy it cheaper

Each Crown Zenith card and product page lists the TCGplayer market price with its history, the figure 12 percent under it, and two eBay buttons. Button one searches eBay for Buy It Now listings from US sellers, leaves out proxies, lots, code cards and look-alike products, sorts by price plus shipping and caps the item price at 12 percent below market. Button two drops the cap. These are affiliate links. The cap leaves shipping out, so add that on yourself. What counts is the landed price, item plus shipping, at least 12 percent below market: about $277 delivered for the Elite Trainer Box and about $193 for the bundle. A seller's "was $X" markdown counts for nothing. The site prices every card as a raw Near Mint copy. The Deal Score method on the methodology page measures a Lightly Played card against 85 percent of that price, so Giratina VSTAR counts as below market at about $274 landed in Near Mint and about $233 in Lightly Played. Under about $31 landed, a tenth of market, the method treats a listing as a mismatch or a scam. eBay's Authenticity Guarantee, which in the US covers trading cards sold for $200 or more, reaches three Crown Zenith cards at market price: Giratina VSTAR, Mewtwo VSTAR and Arceus VSTAR. Crown Zenith packs are rich, about $10 of expected cards each, and roughly $8 of that is Galarian Gallery. They are also expensive: about $23.50 to $25 in the cheaper products and about $31.50 in the Elite Trainer Box, so every product returns under 50 cents per dollar.
