How many packs are in an Elite Trainer Box? Every era's count
A Pokémon Elite Trainer Box holds 9 booster packs from Scarlet & Violet on, 11 in a Pokémon Center box. Older main sets had 8, older special sets 10.
An English Pokémon Elite Trainer Box from the Scarlet & Violet era on holds 9 booster packs, and the Pokémon Center version of the same box holds 11. That covers every box from the era's first set in March 2023 through the Mega Evolution sets of 2025 and 2026, special sets included: 151, Paldean Fates, Prismatic Evolutions and 30th Celebration boxes hold 9 too.
Older boxes hold fewer, and the count depends on the kind of set. A main set from the XY, Sun & Moon or Sword & Shield era put 8 packs in its Elite Trainer Box, and its Pokémon Center box had 10. Special sets from Generations to Crown Zenith put 10 in theirs, and the two Pokémon Center "Plus" boxes of that run had 12. The rest of this guide shows where each number comes from, lists the boxes that break the pattern, and compares what a pack costs inside each kind of box.
The count by era
Every count below comes from the site's catalog of English sealed products, where a pack count is entered only once it has been checked against the publisher's own product pages or a distributor's listing; the methodology page explains the rule. On October 14, 2026 the catalog held 140 English Elite Trainer Box products, and they group like this:
| Era | Elite Trainer Box | Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box | Boxes in the catalog |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mega Evolution (2025 on) | 9 packs | 11 packs | 8 regular, 8 Pokémon Center |
| Scarlet & Violet (2023 to 2025) | 9 packs | 11 packs | 20 regular, 19 Pokémon Center |
| Sword & Shield main sets (2020 to 2022) | 8 packs | 10 packs | 16 regular, 9 Pokémon Center |
| Sword & Shield special sets | 10 packs | 12 packs (the "Plus" boxes) | 4 regular, 2 Plus |
| Sun & Moon main sets | 8 packs | none in the catalog | 14 |
| Sun & Moon special sets | 10 packs | none in the catalog | 3 |
| XY main sets | 8 packs | none in the catalog | 11 |
| XY special set (Generations) | 10 packs | none in the catalog | 1 |
The Pokémon Center box has held two more packs than the store box in every era that had one: 10 against 8, 12 against 10, and 11 against 9.
The special sets with 10-pack boxes are Generations, Shining Legends, Dragon Majesty, Hidden Fates, Champion's Path, Shining Fates, Pokémon GO and Crown Zenith. From Scarlet & Violet on, special sets stopped getting the larger box: the Paldean Fates Elite Trainer Box and the Prismatic Evolutions Elite Trainer Box hold 9, like a main set's.
The boxes that break the pattern
A few listings in the catalog hold a different number or none at all, and none of them is an exception to the rule above:
- "Set of 2" listings are two boxes sold together, so they show 16 packs (two 8-pack Sword & Shield boxes), 18 (two 9-pack boxes) or 20 and 22 (two Pokémon Center boxes). TCGplayer lists them as separate products.
- Celebrations (2021) has no pack count on the site. Its boxes hold packs of more than one kind, so a single count would mislead.
- The Sword & Shield Elite Trainer Box Plus (Zacian and Zamazenta) and the XY era's BREAKthrough and Primal Clash boxes (Mewtwo X and Y, Groudon and Kyogre) have no checked count in the catalog, so the site gives them none.
- Warehouse-club bundles (an Elite Trainer Box packed with tins or a Poké Ball) hold more than one product, and the site counts none of them.
When a product page on the site shows no pack count, it shows no expected value either: the value of a box is computed from its packs, so it needs the count first.
What a pack costs inside the box
A loose booster pack is $4.49 at the Pokémon Center, the site's reference retail price, read on September 18, 2026. An Elite Trainer Box carries a suggested price of $49.99 for 9 packs (as reported by TCGplayer and ICv2; some chains charge more), which is about $5.55 a pack, and the Pokémon Center's own box lists at $59.99 for 11 packs, about $5.45 a pack. The difference over a loose pack pays for what else comes in the box, which this guide does not count.
On the secondary market the packs inside a box cost very different amounts. Prices in this guide are TCGplayer market values as of October 14, 2026:
| Box | Packs | Market price | Per pack |
|---|---|---|---|
| Perfect Order Elite Trainer Box (March 2026) | 9 | $73.87 | about $8.21 |
| Perfect Order Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Box | 11 | $123.15 | about $11.20 |
| Destined Rivals Elite Trainer Box (May 2025) | 9 | $113.33 | about $12.59 |
| Crown Zenith Elite Trainer Box (January 2023) | 10 | $322.64 | about $32.26 |
| Evolving Skies Elite Trainer Box (August 2021, Flareon, Jolteon, Umbreon and Leafeon) | 8 | $567.32 | about $70.92 |
Two things show in that table. The Pokémon Center box costs more per pack than the store box of the same set, $11.20 against $8.21 for Perfect Order. And in this table the older the box, the higher its price per pack: the sealed price of an out-of-print box includes a premium for the sealed product itself, so its per-pack price says little about the cards inside.
What the packs are likely to hold is a separate question. The site's expected value for each box is the average raw card value of its packs, from the set's own pull rates, set against the box's price. The live table below ranks Elite Trainer Boxes by that comparison and updates daily:
| Product | Market | Ratio |
|---|---|---|
| 30th Celebration Elite Trainer Box EV $57.71 | $133.43 | 0.43× |

Cases of Elite Trainer Boxes
A distributor's case of regular Elite Trainer Boxes holds 10 boxes, so it holds 80, 90 or 100 packs depending on the era of the box inside: 80 for an 8-pack era, 90 for a 9-pack era, and 100 for a 10-pack special set. The site counts that case size because distributors' solicitations state it. Pokémon Center Elite Trainer Boxes have no case count on the site: they are sold to collectors directly, so no distributor's solicitation states one.
Delta Reign, dated November 6, 2026
Delta Reign's boxes follow the same rule: the catalog lists the Delta Reign Elite Trainer Box with 9 packs and its Pokémon Center box with 11. Both were presale products on October 14, 2026, priced at $121.52 and $457.21, and a presale price is for a box that has not shipped, so the site measures no value against it.
What changes and what stays
Dated figures: every price, price per pack and presale price in this guide is a TCGplayer market value as of October 14, 2026, and so is the order of the boxes by price per pack. The live table above shows the boxes' prices and expected values each day, and each product page shows its own price history. The count of products in the catalog changes as sets are added.
Lasting facts: the pack counts, 9 and 11 from Scarlet & Violet on, 8 and 10 for older main sets, 10 and 12 for older special sets. A different count for a future set, or a correction to a box's contents from The Pokémon Company, would change them for that set only. The retail prices of $49.99, $59.99 and $4.49 last until The Pokémon Company or the Pokémon Center changes them. The case size of 10 boxes lasts until distributors list another.
Bottom line
A Pokémon Elite Trainer Box from Scarlet & Violet on holds 9 packs, and a Pokémon Center one holds 11. Boxes from older main sets hold 8, their Pokémon Center boxes 10, and boxes from the older special sets 10, with 12 in a Pokémon Center Plus box. Every Pokémon Center box in the catalog holds two more packs than the store box of the same set. On October 14, 2026 the price per pack inside a box ran from about $8.21 for Perfect Order to about $70.92 for an Evolving Skies box, against $4.49 for a loose pack at retail.
